What’s the best way to measure a curved or complex shape?

Lay out a string line or rope along the desired shape, then lift it and measure its full length. Before lifting the rope, it’s a good idea to mark the outline on the ground with spray paint or wooden stakes, so you can position your edging exactly as originally intended.
