ECCOdal HD Flex is a strong, flexible grass paver made from 100% recycled plastic. The large contact surface and thicker cell walls ensure better load distribution and high resistance to torsional loads.

  • Rows of small cups filled with red and dark berries on a tray

Less visible after healing: aesthetic result

The unique round cellular structure of ECCOdal HD Flex ensures that, once the grass has grown in, the grass paver is virtually invisible. Whereas a classic square grid keeps the outlines of the pavers visible, the HD Flex disappears into the grass. For private driveways, patios and garden paths that also need to look good for the customer, that makes a noticeable difference at handover.

  • Interlocking metal lattice pattern with repeating clover-shaped cutouts, grey on white

Resistant to torsional loads, even on roadways and narrow driveways

On roadways and access ramps with bends or narrow driven-over areas, vehicles exert torsional forces on the sub-base. ECCOdal HD Flex has thicker cell walls than standard grass grids, a large contact surface at the bottom for better load distribution, and more than 6 connections per linear metre between the grids. Optionally installable in a half-bond pattern for extra structural strength in the highest-load areas.

  • From firebreak to riding arena

ECCOdal HD Flex is designed for a wide range of applications: grass driveways, grass parking areas, fire access roads, walking and garden paths, campsites, paddocks and horse arenas. The flexible cell structure absorbs all thermal expansion, keeping the slabs stable all year round, from summer heat to winter frost. A grass surface area of at least 90% guarantees a green and natural result.

Benefits of ECCOdal HD Flex

A sturdy, flexible grass grid made from recycled material that becomes less visible once the grass has grown in and is resistant to twisting loads on driveways and roadways.

  • Unique round cell structure: less visible after the grass has grown in
  • Resistant to torsional loads due to thicker cell walls
  • 6+ connections per running metre for structural cohesion
  • Can be laid in half-brick bond for extra strength
  • Large contact surface area for better load distribution
  • Cell structure accommodates all thermal expansions.
  • 100% recycled and 100% recyclable material (mix PE-PP)
  • Water-permeable: prevents puddling
  • Grass surface area ≥ 90% for maximum green results
  • Belgian quality product – produced in Belgium from A to Z
  • Frost-resistant down to -20°C
Installation

How do you install ECCOdal HD Flex?

Step 1: Excavation works

Carry out the necessary excavation works and always remove the topsoil. Determine the correct foundation depth in advance based on the expected load.

Step 2: Foundation base (only when used with vehicles)

Install the foundation base at least 25 cm deep using foundation substrate, which provides both a base and nutrients. Then apply weight to the foundation base, for example with a heavy roller.

Step 3: Bedding substrate

Create the levelling layer with bedding substrate. For vehicle use this is 5 cm deep; without vehicles 15 cm (due to the absence of a foundation base).

Step 4: Installing ECCOdal HD Flex

Lay the ECCOdal HD Flex grass grids and click them together using the expansion joints. Cut to size where necessary with a cutting disc and lay the grids in a staggered bond for extra strength of the overall structure.

Step 5: Grass-grid substrate

Fill the grass grids with grass-grid substrate to about 1 cm (max. 0.5 cm) below the edge and brush it out thoroughly for an even, level surface. Tip: never fill the grids with topsoil only, as it compacts too much and prevents the grass seed from germinating.

Step 6: Seeding

Sow the grass in the ECCOdal HD Flex grass grids.

Step 7: Waiting period

After 6 to 8 weeks you can put the grass parking area into use. With intensive use, it is best to wait 16 weeks so the grass can grow in densely. In the meantime, mowing can already be done.

Frequently asked questions

  • May I drive over ECCOdal grass pavers?

Yes, provided there is a proper foundation.

ECCOdal grass pavers are designed to reinforce green areas so that, if necessary, vehicles can drive over them without completely tearing up the grass. Typical applications are fire lanes, parking areas and driveways to a carport where people park a trailer. With the right foundation, ECCOdal can also withstand occasional heavy traffic, and the foundation can be designed to also handle runoff from the driveways.

    What to avoid

In places that are used very intensively or where speeds above 10 km/h are reached, we recommend constructing the driven-over areas in a bound material such as asphalt or concrete.

  • Can gravel also be placed in ECCOdal grass pavers?

In theory, it’s possible, but it’s not recommended. Grass and gravel require opposite approaches:

    • For grass you need a grass grid where roots can easily take hold. For gravel you actually want to prevent weed growth, among other things by using an anti-root weed-control fabric.
    • Grass grids have larger openings to make sowing easier. Gravel mats have smaller openings so the gravel stays in place better.

For gravel applications, we recommend ECCOgravel gravel mats.

  • Is the ECCOdal suitable for wheelchair users?

Yes, the ECCO valley is perfectly suitable for wheelchair users.

  • Up to and including which traffic class can the ECCOdal grass pavers be used?

The ECCOdal with a height of 4 cm is suitable for load class B (normal load, light traffic), and the ECCOdal with a height of 5 cm is suitable for load class A (intensive load).

  • What type of grass can I use for ECCOdal grass pavers?

We recommend grass seeds that root deeply and are therefore better able to withstand dry periods. Your grass seed supplier can provide you with more information about this.
