Jointing sand

Jointing sand is the most traditional way to finish paving. The sand is simply swept into the joints and provides a natural and water-permeable finish. However, classic jointing sand also has drawbacks: during heavy rainfall it can wash away or be disturbed by weeds and ants, meaning maintenance is needed more often.

Pointing mortar

Jointing mortar on the other hand is a mixture of sand and binder that, after application, hardens. This makes the joints stronger and better able to withstand intensive use. In addition, once hardened it remains water-permeable, allowing rainwater to infiltrate naturally. For projects that are heavily loaded or where minimal maintenance is desired, jointing mortar therefore offers a clear advantage.

Smarter solutions for every project

In recent years, new and innovative jointing solutions have been developed that largely eliminate the limitations of traditional materials. For instance, there is water-permeable jointing sand that not only stays firmly in place, but also acts as a weed inhibitor. In addition, there are ready-to-use jointing mortars that are easy to sweep into the joints and harden automatically on contact with oxygen. For very narrow joints there are flexible mortars that still create a strong bond, while robust two-component systems prove their strength precisely with wide joints and heavy loads.

Thanks to these developments, the choice no longer has to be between easy or durable. For every type of project there is now a jointing solution that is both practical and aesthetic, and that takes into account the demands of modern outdoor spaces.
