Choosing the right gravel mat
ECCOgravel is available in different heights. For light applications such as garden paths or terraces, a lower panel is often sufficient. For driveways, parking areas or zones with car traffic, it’s better to choose a stronger build-up.
The heavier the load, the more important the right combination of panel height, gravel type and sub-base.

Which grind size do you use?
Not all gravel is suitable for gravel grids. Preferably choose gravel with a grain size between 4 and 16 mm. That way it stays well in the honeycomb structure and the surface remains stable.
For walking areas, the gravel may be finer. For driveways or parking areas, it’s better to choose slightly coarser, crushed gravel. It interlocks better and shifts less quickly than rounded pebbles.
Hardness also plays a role. Hard stone types stay attractive longer, crumble less quickly, and retain less moisture.

A solid foundation makes all the difference
A beautiful gravel surface starts below ground. The foundation determines how stable the final result will be.
With ECCOgravel, no traditional drainage slope is needed, because rainwater infiltrates through the gravel and the underlying layers. A frost-free depth, as with concrete or asphalt, is also not required. The build-up is mainly determined by the use: a garden path requires less foundation than a driveway.

Placing driveway grids in 6 steps
-
1. Excavate the subsoil
First remove the topsoil and excavate to the correct depth. Then place the edging stones or borders. They keep the paving neatly in place.
-
2. Build the foundation
Apply a permeable foundation layer, for example with limestone chippings, porphyry chippings or crushed concrete rubble. Compact the foundation well in layers so that the subsoil does not settle later.
-
3. Finish with a leveling layer
On top of the foundation comes a fine levelling layer. It ensures that the ECCOgravel panels lie flat and stable.
-
4. Install the ECCOgravel panels
Place the gravel grids on the level surface, preferably in a staggered pattern. Cut the panels to size where necessary. The geotextile on the underside helps prevent gravel from getting underneath the panels.
-
5. Fill with gravel
Fill the honeycomb structure completely with gravel. Do not drive over unfilled panels. Leave the gravel about 1 to 2 cm above the panel so that the structure becomes nicely invisible.
-
6. Check after a few weeks
After the first few weeks, the gravel may still settle a bit. Rake the surface level again and add some gravel if necessary. After that, the paving will remain stable and low-maintenance.
Tight grind, no fuss
With ECCOgravel, you combine the natural look of gravel with the comfort of a solid, stable surface. No deep ruts, less shifting gravel, and a surface that lets water infiltrate easily.
Ideal for driveways, parking areas, garden paths and other outdoor spaces where appearance and ease of use need to go hand in hand.
