How do you install CORE Datum Edge powered by ECCO?
Required tools
- Mason’s line
- Tape measure
- Hammer
- Wooden block
- Impact screwdriver
Step-by-step plan
Step 1 — Preparation
Clear the area thoroughly and prepare the sub-base to create a stable foundation. If the soil is hard, loosen it to make installation easier.
Step 2 — Installation
Place CORE Datum Edge into the ground. Drive the edging in using a wooden block and a hammer. The block protects the top edge and makes the work safer.
Step 3 — Anchoring
Slide the supplied anchoring pins through the sleeves and drive them down for extra reinforcement. Position the sleeves on the least visible side. For curved shapes, use the pins to create anchor points along the desired path.
Step 4 — Adjusting height
Slide the edging up or down over the pins until it is level and at the correct height. Lock it with the DatumLock™ screws once the desired height has been reached.
Step 5 — Connection
Align the next length with the section already installed and connect both using the supplied connection plates. Tighten the bolts and repeat for each subsequent length.
Step 6 — Finishing
Finish the surrounding surfaces and arrange the landscape as desired. The end result is a clean, neat finish for your garden edging.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is the best way to create a curved shape with CORE Edge?
That depends on how tight the bend needs to be.
Tight bend
Bend each edging separately around a suitable cylindrical object, such as a bucket filled with soil or a round post.
Smooth bend
You have two options, depending on how many people are on site.
- Working alone: bend each piece slightly by hand and connect the pieces one by one.
- With multiple people: first connect the desired number of edgings together — make sure the double locking tabs click firmly into place. Start at one end and gradually tap the edgings into the ground, while your colleagues hold the bend in place.
-
What is the best way to install CORE Edge in a hard surface?
The anchoring pegs of CORE Edge are extremely durable and can be driven into most firm subsoils using a wooden mallet or a wooden block. If the subsoil is particularly hard, it is recommended to loosen it first with a digging fork or pickaxe. Once the edging is in place, press the soil firmly against it by lightly tamping it down. If the edging needs to protrude above ground level, for example with a raised border, the galvanized stabilizing pegs may be needed for extra support.
-
What is the best way to install CORE Edge in very soft ground?
The preformed anchoring pins can easily be tapped into soft ground. It is advisable to place a piece of brick or a flat stone under the edging at regular intervals to prevent the edging from sinking under direct pressure. An alternative is to support the edging with a concrete backing, placed just below the top edge. When the edging needs to protrude above ground level, for example in a raised border, the galvanised stabilisation pins provide extra support and long-term stability.
