ECCOdal HD Flex is a robust, flexible grass paver made from 100% recycled material, with a unique round cell structure that remains less visible once the grass has grown in. The thicker cell walls withstand torsional loads on driveways and access roads, and the 6+ connections per running metre keep the structure together as a single whole. Can be laid in a half-bond pattern for extra strength in areas with heavier use.
ECCOdal HD Flex is a strong, flexible grass grid made from 100% recycled plastic. The large contact surface and thicker cell walls ensure better load distribution and high resistance to torsional loads.

Less visible after healing: aesthetic result
The unique round cell structure of ECCOdal HD Flex ensures that, once the grass has grown in, the grass grid is virtually invisible. Where a classic square grid keeps the outline of the slabs visible, the HD Flex disappears into the grass. For private driveways, patios and garden paths that also need to look good for the customer, this makes a noticeable difference at handover.
-
Resistant to twisting loads, even on roadways and narrow driveways
On carriageways and driveways with bends or narrow access areas, vehicles exert torsional forces on the ground. ECCOdal HD Flex has thicker cell walls than standard grass grids, a large contact surface underneath for better load distribution, and more than 6 connections per linear metre between the grids. Optionally installable in a half-bond pattern for extra structural strength in the areas with the highest load.
-
From fire lane to horse arena
ECCOdal HD Flex is designed for a wide range of applications: grass driveways, grass parking areas, fire access roads, walking and garden paths, campsites, paddocks and horse riding arenas. The flexible cell structure absorbs all thermal expansion, ensuring the slabs remain stable all year round, from summer heat to winter frost. A grass surface area of at least 90% guarantees a green and natural result.

How do you install ECCOdal HD Flex?
Step 1: Excavation works
Carry out the necessary excavation works and always remove the topsoil. Determine the correct foundation depth in advance based on the expected load.
Step 2: Foundation base (only when used with vehicles)
Install the foundation base at least 25 cm deep with foundation substrate, which provides both a foundation and nourishment. Then add weight to the foundation base, for example with a heavy roller.
Step 3: Bedding substrate
Create the levelling layer with bedding substrate. With vehicles it is 5 cm deep; without vehicles, 15 cm (due to the absence of a foundation base).
Step 4: Install ECCOdal HD Flex
Lay the ECCOdal HD Flex grass pavers and click them into place using the expansion joints. Cut to size where necessary with a cutting disc and lay the pavers in a half-bond pattern for extra strength of the overall structure.
Step 5: Grass paver substrate
Fill the grass pavers with grass paver substrate to approx. 1 cm (max. 0.5 cm) below the edge and brush it out thoroughly for an even, level surface. Tip: never fill the pavers using topsoil only, as it compacts too much and prevents the grass seed from germinating.
Step 6: Seeding
Sow the grass in the ECCOdal HD Flex grass pavers.
Step 7: Waiting period
After 6 to 8 weeks you can put the grass parking area into use. With intensive use, it’s best to wait 16 weeks so the grass can grow in thickly. In the meantime, mowing can already be done.

Frequently asked questions
-
Can gravel also be placed in ECCOdal grass grids?
That’s possible in theory, but it’s not recommended. Grass and gravel require an opposite approach:
- For grass you need a grass grid where roots can easily take hold. For gravel, you actually want to prevent weed growth, including by using an anti-root membrane.
- Grass grids have larger mesh openings to make sowing easier. Gravel mats have smaller openings so the gravel stays in place better.
For gravel applications, we recommend ECCOgravel gravel mats.
-
Can I drive over ECCOdal grass grids?
Yes, provided there is a solid foundation.
ECCOdal grass grids are intended to reinforce green areas so that, if necessary, vehicles can drive over them without completely damaging the grass. Typical applications include fire access roads, car parks and driveways to a carport where people park a trailer. With the right foundation, ECCOdal can also withstand occasional heavy traffic, and the foundation can be designed to manage runoff water from the roadways as well.
What to avoid
In areas that are used very intensively or where speeds above 10 km/h are reached, we recommend constructing the trafficked areas in a bound material such as asphalt or concrete.
-
Is the ECCOdal suitable for wheelchair users?
Yes, the ECCOdal is perfectly suitable for wheelchair users.
-
Up to and including which traffic class can the ECCOdal grass pavers be used?
The ECCOdal with a height of 4 cm is suitable for use class B (normal load, light traffic) and the ECCOdal with a height of 5 cm is suitable for use class A (intensive load).
-
What type of grass can I use for ECCOdal grass grids?
We recommend grass seeds that root deeply and are therefore better able to withstand dry periods. Your grass seed supplier can provide you with more information about this.
