ECCOdal HD Flex is a strong, flexible grass grid made from 100% recycled material, with a unique round cell structure that remains less visible once the grass has grown in. The thicker cell walls withstand torsional loads on driveways and access roads, and the 6+ connections per linear metre keep the structure together as a single whole. Can be laid in half-bond for extra strength in areas with more intensive use.
ECCOdal HD Flex is a strong, flexible grass paver made from 100% recycled plastic. The large contact surface and thicker cell walls ensure better load distribution and high resistance to twisting loads.

Less visible after tissue integration: aesthetic result
The unique round cell structure of ECCOdal HD Flex ensures that, once the grass has grown in, the grass pavers are virtually invisible. Whereas a classic square grid keeps the outlines of the pavers visible, the HD Flex disappears into the grass. For private driveways, patios and garden paths that also need to look good for the customer, this makes a noticeable difference at handover.
-
Resistant to torsional loads, including on roadways and narrow driveways
On carriageways and slip roads with bends or narrow access areas, vehicles exert torsional forces on the surface. ECCOdal HD Flex has thicker cell walls than standard grass pavers, a large contact area underneath for better load distribution, and more than 6 connections per linear metre between the pavers. Optionally installed in half-bond for extra structural strength in the areas with the highest load.

From firebreak to riding arena
ECCOdal HD Flex is designed for a wide range of applications: grass driveways, grass parking areas, fire access roads, footpaths and garden paths, campsites, paddocks and riding arenas. The flexible cell structure absorbs all thermal expansion, ensuring the slabs remain stable all year round, from summer heat to winter frost. A grass surface area of at least 90% guarantees a green and natural result.

How do you install ECCOdal HD Flex?
Step 1: Excavation works
Carry out the necessary excavation works and always remove the topsoil. Determine the correct foundation depth in advance based on the expected load.
Step 2: Foundation box (only when used with vehicles)
Install the foundation box at least 25 cm deep with foundation substrate, which provides both a base and nutrients. Then apply weight to the foundation box, for example with a heavy roller.
Step 3: Bedding substrate
Create the levelling layer with bedding substrate. With vehicles it is 5 cm deep; without vehicles 15 cm (due to the absence of a foundation box).
Step 4: Install ECCOdal HD Flex
Lay the ECCOdal HD Flex grass grids and click them together using the expansion joints. Cut to size where necessary with a cutting disc and lay the grids in a stretcher bond pattern for extra strength of the entire structure.
Step 5: Grass-grid substrate
Fill the grass grids with grass-grid substrate to approx. 1 cm (max. 0.5 cm) below the edge and brush it out thoroughly for an even, level surface. Tip: never fill the grids using topsoil only, because it compacts too much and prevents the grass seed from germinating.
Step 6: Sowing
Sow the grass in the ECCOdal HD Flex grass grids.
Step 7: Waiting period
After 6 to 8 weeks you can put the grass parking area into use. With intensive use, it is best to wait 16 weeks so the grass can grow in densely. In the meantime, mowing can already be done.

Frequently asked questions
-
Can gravel also be placed in ECCOdal grass grids?
In theory that’s possible, but it’s not recommended. Grass and gravel require opposite approaches:
- For grass you need a grass grid that allows roots to take hold easily. For gravel, you actually want to prevent weed growth, among other things by using a root barrier membrane.
- Grass grids have larger mesh openings to make sowing easier. Gravel mats have smaller mesh openings so the gravel stays in place better.
For gravel applications we recommend ECCOgravel gravel mats.
-
Am I allowed to drive over ECCOdal grass pavers?
Yes, provided there is a solid foundation.
ECCOdal grass grids are designed to reinforce green areas so that, if necessary, vehicles can drive over them without completely tearing up the grass. Typical applications are fire access roads, car parks and driveways to a carport where people park a trailer. With the right foundation, ECCOdal can also withstand occasional heavy traffic, and the foundation can be designed to handle the water runoff from the roadways as well.
What to avoid
In areas that are used very intensively or where speeds above 10 km/h are reached, we recommend constructing the trafficked areas in a bound material such as asphalt or concrete.
-
Is the ECCOdal suitable for wheelchair users?
Yes, the ECCOdal is perfectly suited for wheelchair users.
-
Up to and including which traffic class can the ECCOdal grass pavers be used?
The ECCOdal with a height of 4 cm is suitable for load class B (normal load, light traffic) and the ECCOdal with a height of 5 cm is suitable for load class A (intensive load).
-
What type of grass can I use for ECCOdal grass pavers?
We recommend grass seeds that take root deeply and are therefore more resistant to dry periods. Your grass seed supplier can provide you with more information about this.
